Course map attached to downloadable flyer. Course is a loop using the lower Big Tesuque trail, Pacheco Canyon Rd, the Winsor Trail and back onto the lower Big Tesuque trail.
Race starts at 9 AM. Please register online - it costs you the same as race day registration and it really helps us start the race on time.
Location
Big Tesuque Campground, Hyde Park Road, Mile Post 13. (NOT the location
of the Big T running race in October! The snowshoe race location is before the Aspen Vista/Big T running race location) There are toilet facilities at
the parking area.
Give yourself extra time to get there if it is a powder day due to slow
ski area traffic. On a dry, no weather day, it takes ~ 30 minutes to
drive from the Santa Fe Plaza area.
Registration/check in is in the picnic area near the parking lot. The race start is across the road and down the hill. Look for the post with pink ribbon on it to find the trail to the start.
PLEASE CARPOOL. PARKING IS LIMITED! you can click on the "registered tab" above and see who you know that is also going to the race and share a ride. If you drive, please park your cars as close together as possible and do not waste
space. You may have to park on the shoulder of the road.
Entry Fee (online, mail-in or race day) online surcharges paid by organizer, online and race day costs are the same to you.
Youth - $15 - 19 years and under
Adult - $25 - 20 years and older
Snow Shoe Rental
Snowshoes are available for rent at Alpine Sports in Santa Fe in the ski rental shop. The rental shop opens at 7:30 AM. REI (Santa Fe and Albuquerque) also rents snowshoes, but you would need to pick them up the day before.
Not enough snow?
Race will be held on Jan 12 regardless of snow conditions. If there is insufficient snow for snowshoes, we will have a trail run at the same location. We might decide to change the course somewhat but will start from the same location. We will be updating conditions on this race registration site and also email pre-registered runners if there are course /event changes. If it hasn't snowed in a while, bring your running shoes as well as snowshoes. In the event of a running race, you should consider wearing YakTrax or other non-slip devices as there may be ice. Note, if the race organizer determines that there is enough snow for snowshoes, then all racers must wear snowshoes.
Yes, we changed the date last year hoping for more snow. We will NOT do that this year. We will only change the date if there are unsafe conditions like a huge blizzard. Please keep an eye on this page for race updates.
