FIRST TIME RACERS WELCOME! - This is a perfect event to try out adventure racing. We can help answer any questions and get you started.We can even pair you up with a Mentor for the race. - 2 Person Team: $50 per Team for NMARC Members, $90 per Team Non-members (Includes annual Membership)
Description: This is a sprint length adventure race and will include trekking/running, mountain biking and navigating with a map and compass to locate pre-set checkpoints (CPs). The race cutoff time will be four (4) hours. Top finishers can expect to complete the race in around 2 hours. The total distance for the race will be 15-20 miles. Ranking will be based on finishing time and the number of checkpoints found or missed. Race Updates Mandatory Gear: - Mountain Bike & helmet(Strong suggestion:Bring a bike computer to keep track of mileage) Trail or running shoes
- Back pack capable of carrying 100 oz of water and some energy food
- Water proof map case or 1 quart zip-lock bag (per team)
- UTM grid reader with various scales" and "Pen or pencil for plotting points
- Small first aid kit
- Whistle
- Cell phone
- Compass
Optional gear: - First Aid kit
- Spare bike tube/bike tools
- Sunscreen
- Sun glasses
- Rain jacket
Directions to the Elena Gallegos Picnic Area - Double Shelter: To access the park from I-40, exit on to Tramway north. After the Academy Road traffic light, turn right onto Simms Park Road and travel east to the entrance booth. From I-25, take Paseo del Norte east until it ends at Tramway. Turn right on to Tramway, travel approximately 1.25 miles, turn left onto Simms Park Road, and travel east to the entrance booth. For the Double Shelter Reservation Area: Follow the one-way loop road to the right of the entrance booth. Continue around the loop road until you are heading back toward the booth, and look for the two picnic tables under a single roof on the left side of the road.
